Komatsu Selects Qt Group to Automate GUI Testing for Construction Machinery

On January 14, Qt Group announced that Komatsu Ltd.—a global leader in construction and mining equipment—has adopted Qt’s Squish platform to automate GUI testing for its machine displays. This collaboration has significantly enhanced Komatsu’s testing efficiency and quality assurance across its worldwide operations.

Komatsu’s equipment operates in over 190 countries, with its ICT monitoring systems supporting 27 languages. As digital solutions like Komtrax and Smart Construction become increasingly integral to its offerings, the reliability of software and safety-critical systems has made optimizing the testing process essential. Since Komatsu has long used the Qt framework to develop its software, Squish’s deep integration with Qt enables highly efficient testing of UI controls and components. Additionally, Squish’s flexibility supports testing across Komatsu’s other software platforms, dramatically improving the creation and maintenance of cross-application test suites.

By leveraging Squish, Komatsu has reduced manual testing efforts by 21.4% and extended automated validation to critical areas of its target applications—ensuring comprehensive coverage of all core software features and functions. Integrated OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology within Squish automatically verifies the accuracy of multilingual text display, guaranteeing a clear and consistent user experience for operators worldwide, regardless of language.
